Recovering from Covid-19

Covid 19 has literally taken over our lives. The year has been a tumultuous ride for all staying home and keeping a constant track of how the infection has impacted lives and the economy of the world. While many have lost their lives to this dreaded infection, many have emerged out of it, though a little weak.

While we wait for a vaccine to hit the markets it is clearly understood that we can overcome the infection with proper care and medication, but timely detection seems to be a required parameter here. While the majority of the infections are mild and recovery is more a matter of wait, some get it rather rough with the existence of co-morbidities that weakens the system further.

Many of the detected cases are mild and rarely require hospitalization. The infection, with its symptoms, tends to fade away as the body's immunity system gets to work. Symptomatic treatment is enough to support the recovery period along with a good diet and a well-planned self-isolation to prevent from infecting others in the family.

The infection with it symptoms lasts about two to three weeks after which isolation can be stopped. While you are recovering it is important to note that a good diet rich in minerals and vitamins will go a long way in supporting your system. It is, of course, understood that appetite may not be like before but you need to ensure that whatever little you are eating is giving your body the much-needed vitamins and minerals along with a good supply of proteins.

If your food habits have been impacted then ensure that you are taking professionally prescribed supplements. It is important that the food that you eat is easy on the system and does not weigh it down to digest and process it. Avoid food that is high in fats and eat food that adds value to your diet plan.

Trying to add ample amounts of fruits and juices with fresh vegetables to ensure you are getting a good supply of vitamins and minerals. Add a good amount of fiber-rich food to support your system. Simple carbs are much better than loading in on complex carbs. Post recovery too one needs to ensure that you are maintaining a well-balanced diet to keep your immune system strong and recuperate right.

While we wait for the vaccine to be tested and distributed Covid 19 still remains a threat. Though masks and sanitizers have become a part of our daily life it is very important that we maintain the social distancing that has been advised and follow our health experts. Ours and our loved ones well being depends on it.
